Shopify BFCM Checklist 2026: What Changed This Year and What to Fix First

Shopify BFCM checklist for 2026, in the order to do it. Scripts ended, EU labels changed and Rollouts added discounts. What to fix before November 27.

TL;DR

  • You have three weeks. Black Friday is November 27 and Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026. This checklist is in the order to do it.
  • Check what already changed first. Shopify Scripts stopped running on June 30. The Thank You page upgrade deadline passed on August 26, so old tracking scripts may be gone. Since November 1, you can't buy a Shopify label for an EU parcel if an item is missing its product identifiers.
  • Then build the sale. Rollouts can now schedule discounts and catalogs together. It's on Basic and up, and experiments need Grow or higher. Use an Event, not a Launch, and don't apply it permanently, because that removes your discount's end date.
  • Then test what shoppers see: checkout, outside links, channel feeds and the facts AI agents read about your store.
  • Finish by November 24. Fix Flow permissions, count your stock and lock the schedule.

The Real Question: What Do I Actually Have to Do in the Next Three Weeks?

Most BFCM checklists could have been written last year: speed up your site, plan your offer, warm up your email list. That advice still holds, and we've covered the store basics in our Shopify conversion killers guide. But with three weeks left, the bigger risk is something that used to work and no longer does.

Shopify's own 25-step BFCM checklist, updated October 23, is good on those basics, but it doesn't walk through this year's platform changes. So we read through Shopify's changelog and pulled out the changes that affect a Black Friday sale. Here's what to do, starting with whatever could already be broken.

By November 10: Find What Already Changed

Do these first. None of them will warn you on Black Friday, and all of them can be fixed by November 10.

1. Replace Anything That Ran on Shopify Scripts

Shopify stopped all Scripts on June 30, 2026, so any script still published was switched off. This is the first Black Friday without them. If you ever used the Script Editor, a tiered discount, a shipping rule or a payment rule you remember from last year may simply not be running.

  • Open the Shopify Scripts customizations report (in Apps, Script Editor, click Replace Shopify Scripts). It lists your customizations under Product discounts, Shipping and Payment gateways, and links to replacements.
  • Rebuild what you still need with Shopify Functions, either through an app or a custom build.
  • Test last year's offer in a real cart. If you never used Scripts, skip this one.

2. Confirm Purchase Tracking Still Fires

Shopify's deadline to upgrade Thank You and Order Status pages was August 26, 2026, and stores that hadn't upgraded were moved automatically. Additional scripts are no longer supported on those pages. If your ad or affiliate tracking lived there, you may be spending on ads with purchases going uncounted.

  • Place a real test order.
  • Confirm the purchase shows in Meta, Google and any affiliate or post-purchase tool.
  • Rebuild anything missing with an app pixel or custom pixel in Settings, Customer events.

3. Add EU Product Identifiers If You Ship to Europe

Shopify says cross-border orders were 16% of its global orders over BFCM 2025, so this one reaches further than you'd think. Since November 1, 2026, parcels sent to EU customers from outside the EU and valued at €150 or less need identifiers for every item. Without them, parcels can be held or rejected at customs, with return-to-origin fees. If you buy labels in Shopify, you can't buy one until the missing details are fixed.

  • Merchant identifier: nothing to do. Shopify uses the variant ID.
  • Standardized identifier: add a GTIN, EAN, UPC or ISBN barcode with the matching type. If the product truly has no standard code, turn on "No EU standardized identifier" under More details in the Shipping section.
  • Manufacturer identifier: add a model, part or style number as a barcode of type NS-PID. If it's missing, Shopify falls back to another barcode, the SKU or the variant ID.
  • HS codes: check them too. They decide whether a product is exempt, and you can't mark a product exempt yourself.

Use the bulk editor. Since October 29, Shopify also checks barcodes against the GS1 registry and suggests the GTIN type, and you can accept those suggestions in bulk. If you buy labels outside Shopify, ask your carrier or broker how the identifiers reach them.

While you're there, check duties. Since July 1, the EU charges a €3 customs duty per tariff line on parcels up to €150. Shopify includes it automatically if you use Managed Markets or its import tax and duty calculation. If you use neither, check how your carrier handles it so your EU shoppers don't get a surprise at delivery.

4. Check Tax on Return Fees

Since October 23, Shopify Tax calculates tax on return shipping fees for US orders. If you also add that tax by hand, through an app or in your books, it can now be counted twice, and January is when you'd find out. Our guide to Shopify tax on return shipping fees has a five-step audit and a test return.

By November 16: Build the Sale

5. Set Your Discount Floor

Before you touch a discount, work out the deepest one you can afford. Run each hero product through our Shopify profit calculator, including payment fees, shipping and ad cost. Then plan your discount depth, ad ramp and weekly targets in our BFCM revenue planner.

6. Test How Your Discounts Combine

More discounts are possible this year, and more can go wrong. Shopify's rules, worth checking against your actual offers:

  • Both discounts must allow the combination. They don't combine by default. If they can't, Shopify applies the best discount or combination for the cart.
  • Limits per order: up to 25 active automatic discounts, and up to 5 product or order codes plus 1 shipping code.
  • Stacking two product discounts on one item is Shopify Plus only. You tag the discounts, choose "Multiple per product" and make the pairing reciprocal. If Discount A lists Discount B's tag but B doesn't list A's, they won't combine.
  • Combinations don't work on external checkouts such as Facebook, Instagram or Google. They work on Online Store, Storefront API and POS orders.

Put your real offers in a cart, on your phone, and try the worst case: sale price plus welcome code plus free shipping.

7. Schedule the Sale in Rollouts, and Avoid These Traps

Rollouts lives in Markets, Rollouts. In one rollout you can schedule your theme, checkout, discounts and catalogs to go live together, then revert on their own. Shopify's guide suggests treating Black Friday and Cyber Monday as two campaigns, scheduled back to back. It says you can schedule or run up to five at once, and to keep a backup "second act" built but unscheduled.

Rollout TypeWhat It DoesUse It For
EventApplies changes for a set time, then rolls them backYour Black Friday sale
LaunchMakes changes permanentThings you want to keep
Experiment (Grow and up)Compares a treatment with a controlTesting an offer now

The traps we'd watch for, drawn from Shopify's Help Center:

  • Applying permanently removes your discount's end date. If you end an Event and choose to apply it, a discount it activated stays on with no end date, and you can't undo it. When the sale ends, roll back.
  • A discount's own dates still count. A discount is active if its own dates apply or a rollout turns it on. If you leave start and end dates on a discount you're testing on part of your traffic, its dates can show it to everyone.
  • Partial reach and your ads don't mix. Under 100% reach, changes apply only to your online store. Google and other channels keep the old details, and Shopify warns a mismatch can get products reviewed, stopped or delisted. So keep the sale at 100%, or pause ads for those products.
  • Prices linger after the end. When an Event rolls back, POS and feeds revert on their next sync, so they may show sale prices for a while.
  • In an experiment, the control gets no discount. You're testing your offer against no discount, and combination settings still apply.
  • One rollout per discount or catalog. Each can belong to only one unended rollout at a time, and a rollout can hold up to 250 discounts.
  • Not everything is supported. Rollouts can't be applied to vintage themes, Liquid template changes aren't allowed, and headless checkouts aren't supported.

If you're on Grow or higher and have the traffic, run a short experiment next week on your second-best offer, then end it by November 20. Preview each market before you schedule, using the View As preview on the Markets page.

8. Decide on Campaign Autopilot Now, Not on Black Friday

Since October 28, Shopify's Campaign Autopilot is open to all merchants, in the Growth tab. You set a budget and guardrails, and it builds campaigns and moves spend across Meta, Microsoft Advertising, Snapchat, Shop and Shopify Messaging. Our view: if you're curious, try it now on a small budget. Don't hand it your peak budget for the first time on the most expensive weekend of the year.

By November 20: Test What Shoppers and Channels See

9. Run One Full Checkout on a Real Phone

Your checkout may look different from last year. Since October 22, payment methods can show as compact tiles if you meet Shopify's display criteria, such as offering four or fewer methods. Since October 26, the footer shows one "Terms and policies" link instead of a link per policy. Neither needs action, but place a test order in a private window on a real phone and check everything, especially your payment options and your returns policy. Our guide to building a Shopify store that converts covers what else to look for.

Since October 20, Shopify has been checking links that send shoppers off your store. Its first version showed a confirmation message on outside links, but Shopify changed that on October 23: it now blocks only sites it has identified as malicious, asks for confirmation on suspicious ones, and otherwise sends customers straight through. Shopify also notes that sites you own but haven't connected to your store might still trigger a message. So click your landing pages, quiz, booking tool and tracking links. If a site you own shows a warning, connect the domain.

11. Clean Up Your Channel Feeds

Shopify's new channel mapping page (Settings, Sales channels, select the channel, then Edit mappings) lets you change which data feeds each channel without touching your store. Use it for the check that matters right now: the coverage percentage shows which fields have missing values. Fill them now, because changes can take time to reach the channel, and a preview doesn't tell you whether the channel will approve the listing. A mapping applies to every product on that channel, and price can't be used as a source.

12. Check What AI Agents Say About Your Store

Your admin now has a Knowledge base under Sales channels, Agentic, Knowledge base. Shopify drafts facts from your published pages, and agents don't get them until you publish. Before the holidays, read yours and fix what's wrong, especially delivery, returns and gift services. If you used the old Knowledge Base app with more than 1,000 facts, yours didn't move over: add the ones you want before January 15, 2027. Compare-at prices are also shared with agents now, so check the setting in catalog mapping if your markdowns should show there.

By November 24: Lock It Down

13. Fix Flow Permissions Before You Need Them

Since October 28, Shopify Flow checks admin permissions. Workflows that are on keep running, and staff who already used Flow got the Flow permissions automatically. But a staff member without the permission a workflow's steps need can't test it, turn it on or off, or manually run it. Picture a workflow misfiring at 11 PM on Black Friday, with the one person on shift unable to turn it off. Go to Settings, Users, Roles and check now.

14. Count Stock and Set Up Packing

Run a stock count on your hero products (new in the admin since October 20), and review the differences before you approve them. If you pack in volume, try Shopify's batch fulfillment, added October 16: group orders, then pick, print and pack them as a set, up to 250 fulfillments per batch.

Then lock the schedule by Tuesday, November 24. After that, change only what's broken.

If you'd rather have someone go through this list with you, it's what our Shopify store management team does.

FAQ

What should be on a Shopify BFCM checklist in 2026?

Start with what changed since last year: Shopify Scripts ending, Thank You page tracking and EU product identifiers. Then set your discount floor, test discount combinations, schedule the sale in Rollouts, run a full test checkout, and lock everything by November 24.

Is it too late to prepare for Black Friday on Shopify?

No. With three weeks left, skip the redesign and focus on checks that protect the sale: promotions, tracking, labels and checkout.

Do Shopify Scripts still work for Black Friday?

No. Shopify stopped all Scripts on June 30, 2026. Use the Scripts customizations report to find replacements built on Shopify Functions.

How do I schedule a Black Friday sale on Shopify?

Go to Markets, then Rollouts, and create an Event with your discounts, theme and catalog changes and a start and end time. It rolls back on its own when it ends. You can also set start and end dates on a standalone discount.

Which Shopify plans have Rollouts?

Rollouts is available on Basic and higher. Experiments need Grow or higher.

Do I need EU product identifiers for Shopify shipping labels?

Yes, if you ship to EU customers from outside the EU in parcels valued at €150 or less. Since November 1, 2026, Shopify won't sell you a label until each item has a standardized identifier or a declaration that none exists. Some goods are exempt based on their HS code.

Can I stack two discounts on one product on Shopify?

Only on Shopify Plus, using tags and the "Multiple per product" combination setting. Other plans can still combine product, order and shipping discounts if each discount allows it.

When is Black Friday 2026?

Black Friday is November 27, 2026, and Cyber Monday is November 30, 2026.

The Bottom Line

The basics of a good Black Friday haven't changed. What's different in 2026 is that a few things stopped working on their own, and several new tools have sharp edges. So work in this order: find what already changed, build and schedule the sale, test what shoppers and channels see, and lock it all by November 24. Then you can spend Black Friday watching the numbers instead of fixing the store.
